New construction of a single-family residence on a wooded, coastal watershed.

The gabled volumes draw on the vernacular of surrounding agrarian landscape.  Ipe wood siding set on a blind clip system defines the geometric masses.  Punctured windows frame select views of the landscape.  The primary volume rests atop walls of glass that wrap the great room and interact with the surrounding landscape.

Second-floor dormer windows reference historic details in a contemporary application, while increasing light, views and habitable space.

The interior features a minimalist palette, with wide plank white oak flooring with walnut furnishings and millwork throughout to balance the contemporary aesthetic.

The master bathroom is a gable within a gable, playfully concealing the master bath beyond while allowing ambient light to filter around the form, connecting the spaces within the master suite.

Relentless attention to architectural detail and direct collaboration with craftsmen on site made the cast-inplace concrete fireplace appear effortless.  The monolithic hearth – at the heart of the home and central to the great room – provides a sculptural backdrop to the experience of the home and a reference to the minimalist artistry throughout.
