The Glendale Satellite Library reinvented the premise of what a library is and can offer, seamlessly integrating contemporary technology and architecture into a historic building in a semi-urban neighborhood.  By leveraging extant Central Library circulation resources, real-time feedback from an integrated RFID tag system, and custom digital coding to integrate architectural organization/fabrication with library programming, the Satellite is an active architectural space driven by data feedback that curates the user experience and community engagement.

This collaborative project involved library boards, city government officials, community stake holders, and state regulators.  Teamwork was crucial to realizing the innovative integration of cutting-edge functionality and historic preservation. The end-result is a neighborhood landmark that serves as a model for how radical approaches to technology can be mindfully incorporated into historic structures and reactivate community spaces.
